MINIMALISTIC LIFESTYLE FOR YOUR WARDROBE
Minimalism!! We have all heard of this word a lot in recent
times. Be it clothing, buildings, artwork or even food, minimalism has slowly
crept in and made its place everywhere. “I want my room interiors to be
minimalistic” or “her fashion choices are inclined towards minimalism”, are
very common statements to come across. But what about the minimalistic
lifestyle! Ever wondered what it would be like to practice life the
minimalistic way. I say try it to know it. I am sure it will make you only
happier.
Minimalism is nothing but
rejection of the unwanted with acceptance of bare minimum and simplicity.
DE-CLUTTER
Start by de-cluttering
whatever is not required. This can be a big deal for a lot of us. We somehow
always end up on ‘this might be of use someday’ and because of this human
tendency we keep clinging to the stuff which should have found its way out long
back.
Start with that Over-loaded Wardrobe
Going through the struggle of finding the right outfit every
day from the hundreds of other clothes in the wardrobe may sound very normal.
But is it healthy in real? No. It is not. It not only takes up a lot of your
time but also makes you start your day from the chaotic practice of juggling
and working your way out of multiple clothes.
Take a basket and keep all
the clothes you haven’t worn since the last season in it. Tag it ‘MAYBE’ and
keep it in an isolated corner of your home. Whenever you genuinely need
something from the basket make place for it in your cupboard.
After a month,
donate whatever remains in that basket. Someone else needs it so much more than
you. Practice this every time the weather changes. Let this be your way to
welcome one season and bid adieu to the other.
The Old and Rustic
It’s time to open all those trunks, bed and overhead
storage. Your inner self knows what is truly of need and what is not. Discard
whatever you don’t need, even if it’s with a heavy heart and you will truly
feel lighter afterwards. Anything and everything that’s just been lying around
and adds no value in your daily life should find its way out of the house.
THINK TWICE BEFORE SWIPING THAT CARD
The constant urge to buy is so common. Every time we see
something in the store that matches our vibe, the instant reaction is to
purchase it. But wait! Think! Rethink! Think again! Ask yourselves a few
questions. Do you really need it? Or is it just going to be one of those
impulsive buys? Is this purchase going to make your life easier in any way? Or
will it just be an add-on to the existing clutter? Maybe take a few days to
make your decision. If you think, you need it, only then should you buy it.
HOARDING IN THE NAME OF TRENDS
We have all bought those jeans because it’s in trend. We
have all fallen in the trap of our favourite brand and spent thousands of bucks
to stock up our cupboard with the newly launched range. We have all changed our
mobile phone because the market has so much better versions now. Let bygone be
bygone.
But it’s time we become
smart consumers and move past these stupidities. Don’t just buy because it’s
the new trend even when you don’t need it. Stop purchasing hundreds of clothes
because you are shy to wear the same piece again and again. It’s not fashion or
superiority but just sheer stupidity. You are not only wasting your money in
these practices but also making the lives of the poor worse by increasing
consumerism. I hope this at least you understand.
Start using that super
expensive washing machine because there’s no harm in wearing that same shirt
every week. The world already has a lot of fools, the least you can do is to
make that number less by one.
Invest in good quality
clothing that lasts for long and stick to them for the longest possible time.
Purchase versatile pieces that can be styled in different ways instead of
buying separate ones for everything. Start experimenting and playing smart with
whatever you have instead of reaching out to the stores all the time.
So the next time you want
to buy something, buy it only when you need it and not because it’s all over
the internet.
HEAVY JUNKY DRESSES
We all have those age-old gowns and dresses that
we once bought for a cousin’s wedding. The wedding happened five years back and
the dress still hangs in my wardrobe because you never know. But truly you do
know. You know that you are never going to wear that dress again. You know that
you will always find some excuse to buy a new one for every occasion of the
future. Why is it still there then? I say donate it today. Let someone else
wear it because you never will.
We all have many such
things lying around our house that we know will never truly be worn. But
somehow we still manage to find excuses to keep them. ‘I will wear this when I
lose weight’, ‘I will wear this when I visit a beach’, ‘I will wear this when I
purchase a jacket that matches to it’ etc are the most common excuses that we
make. It’s time to stop making excuses, stop relying on ‘what if’ and start
living in present smartly and wisely.
